NEIL KIRBY
Neil Kirby has been training athletes for over 20 years. He began in 1985 working almost exclusively with local bodybuilders and power lifters in upstate NY. In 1987 as a US Army special fitness instructor in Europe he developed and implemented a program that had a 100% success rate for soldiers who were identified as overweight and those struggling to pass their physical assessments. After relocating to Colorado in 1990 he continued to train athletes as a personal trainer. He opened up his own company “all about you fitness” during which time he acquired his ISSA personal trainers certification in 2000. After repeated requests he expended his training to include non-competitive athletes as well. After being involved with club wrestling in the late ‘90’s and early 2000’s, it became apparent that while athletes were training hard they were not training correctly for their sport. This was very apparent in the combat sports such as wrestling and MMA (an emerging sport), where you would see well-trained and seemingly poor conditioned athletes fight a good round but lose due to poor cardio. Seeing the gap, Neil began to research possibilities to improve these athletes. This led him to find a revolutionary concept of functional and specific training designed precisely for each sport and for each individual. While working for Freemotion Fitness, he became acquainted with several well-known trainers including Juan Carlos Santana, the fitness trainer for Jeff Munson and Marcus Aurelio as well as many other successful professional athletes. With his help and the literature of Don Chamburg, Freddy George, Tom Huelin, Tom Howard and Martin Rooney he formulated his own system. Neil and his son Josh (an amateur MMA fighter) have since developed their own strength and conditioning system called Kinetic Edge that covers everything from general fitness to extremely intense 4-stage pre-fight conditioning camps. Most recently Neil and Josh have found a home with the multi-talented staff of coaches and trainers at RoughHouse MMA and Fitness’ world class facility in Colorado Springs. Offerings include personal training, weight management, group training and pre-fight conditioning.
